Alex is currently studying Communication at SFU, and through work-study managed to secure positions at a range of organizations, many of which put them to work at social media. They have experience with newsletters, copywriting, social media, podcasting, graphic design, and more, and they’ve worked in a variety of environments. Myths Busted BC

Project Description
As a final project in fourth-year course Applied Communication for Social Issues, Alex and two other Communication majors created the Myths Busted campaign, designed to combat the misinformation against SOGI and queer education in schools currently rampant across Canada.

From 2021 to 2023, Alex was on the team for I’m Feeling Queer Today, a queer youth podcast produced by the Future Perfect Project. They were a co-host of the series, as well as a composer, and also hosted or appeared in multiple segments.

Project Description
During their time at SFU’s Vancity Office of Community Engagement, Alex not only edited and promoted episodes of VOCE’s podcast, Below the Radar, but even co-hosted one, and composed the music for one of the podcast’s miniseries! Additionally, as the Digital Communications and Podcasting Specialist, they also assisted with promotion, content creation, and outreach for events put on by the office.

Alex is one of the co-creators of the 2021 zine project We Were Here, We Were Queer, a literary and visual arts zine which highlighted (and compensated!) the work of queer SFU and FIC students.

Project Description
During their time at posAbilities in 2021, alongside event planning and social media, Alex had the opportunity to work on a number of notable projects. They helped run several internal and external newsletters, wrote several blog entries, and compiled the first draft of the 2021 Annual Report, as well as a resource hub for disability-inclusive summer camps in BC.
